Fine art illustration of an Arizona Sister Butterfly (Adelpha eulalia.) Artist’s notes: The Arizona Sister Butterfly was completed on 1.11.2011. It’s always something of a puzzle when illustrating a butterfly – the obvious choice of angle is from above looking down on the wings spread open. But in some species, that’s not the most attractive portion of the insect. As the case in the California Sister when the wings are closed up, some beautiful coloration can be seen. The drawing is based on a photo by Bill Bouton.
